Finding a Job. Part II


Like I said before, I was suppose to look for two jobs, an entry level position and one of my dreams. I really do want to work in an enviromentally friendly industry, that helps reduce polution an invest in recycling and making the world a better and clean place to live.

Engineer, Environmental Health and Safety


  • About the Job
    Monitoring of federal, state and local regulations that pertain to personnel safety, hazardous waste management, wastewater, storm water, hazardous materials transportation, air quality, etc.
    Interpreting environmental and safety regulatory requirements, determining applicability to semiconductor operations and implementing practices to comply.
    Translating environmental requirements into business risk mitigation plans, activities and financial impacts.
    Implementation and maintenance of sustainability programs.
    Developing and communicating internal and external environmental and safety policies to all departments.
    Producing and maintaining required regulatory reports, data and permit applications.
    Implementation of environmental and safety policies and processes.
    Making regular status reports to management.
    Conducting various environmental and safety training courses that include, but are not limited to: hazardous waste management, storm water compliance, hazardous materials transportation, “Hazcom”, “Hazwoper”, lock-out/tag-out, confined space, electrical safety, cryogenic safety, fall protection, fire prevention and suppression, respiratory protection, PPE, hearing conservation, emergency response plans, CPR/AED and first aid.
    Implementing the EMS system per ISO14001 requirements.
    Managing the hazardous waste program.
    Performing various environmental, health and safety inspections.
    Working with the Fab and Facilities departments regarding equipment installations, contractor activities, training and documentation.
    Interfacing with regulatory agencies, preparing all required documentation, scheduling and performing all required testing and providing additional documentation as required.
    Conducting ergonomic assessments and implementing corrective actions.
    Investigating potential hazards, near misses, accidents, injuries and illnesses and implementing engineering practices focused at reducing or minimizing hazards.
    Researching and implementing engineering practices focused at reducing environmental impacts and operational costs.
    Ordering, calibrating and maintaining EHS equipment used for emergency situations (e.g. monitoring equipment and emergency response supplies).
    Coordinating all emergency response activities and ensuring that ERT responders understand the purpose and operation of life safety systems.
    Functioning effectively on a corporate-wide EHS Team that helps integrates the site and ensures compliance with corporate-wide initiatives and programs.
    The selected candidate is accountable for making sound environmental and safety recommendations and decisions that have an impact across organizational boundaries but has no authorization to commit company assets or approve expenditures unless so authorized in accordance with approved company procedures.

    Job Requirements:
    BS degree in environmental safety science, engineering or related discipline
    Minimum of 7 years of combined experience in environmental and safety compliance
    Knowledge of hazardous substances, wastes, and materials
    Experience in facility operations is preferred
    Experience in semiconductor industry is preferred
    Understanding of environmental and safety regulations (TX and Federal)
    Experience in implementing and maintaining ISO 14001
    Experience with OHSAS 18001
    Experience in implementing environmentally responsible recycling programs and quantifying results
    Excellent written and oral communication skills
    Strong proficiency in English
    Ability to be cross-functional
    Knowledge of risk assessment and mitigation
    Ability to distill environmental programs into economic terms and present to upper management
    Ability to train and educate groups as well as individuals
    Strong process orientation
    Proficiency in MS Office applications (word, excel, power point and access)
    Ability with work as part of a company-wide EHS team to develop and maintain the local EHS program while supporting other facilities when necessary.
